Why the Most Vital VST Download Is, Ironically, Vital
I think what drew me to vital was the price, it’s completely free and it’s accessible to just about anyone out there. I started working with it on the day it came out, it’s rapidly become my favourite synth
You can grab the Vital VST download from the official site and start crafting sounds immediately, of course you can also buy my Vital Preset Packs too, I even have some free vital VST presets, in the form of 80s bubblegum - Free Vital Presets.
Why should I download the free Vital synth?
Some people see Vital as a poor man’s version of the Serum VST, but it’s actually pretty unique. While it’s pretty clear that Serum was the main source of inspiration for Vital, it’s really a powerful synth in its own right, it’s become a great choice for generative synthesis and also seems to have surpassed serum in some ways for creating orchestral sound libraries.
The Oscillator Section

Vital has three dedicated wavetable oscillators, and an additional sample player which can be used to play back white noise, or even a pitched sample, this can really add some timbre to your sounds.
Advanced Spectral Warping

While Serum offers some spectral warping options, vital has in many ways surpassed it. Vital is capable of weirder timbral warping and it definitely covers you for the strange otherworldly sounds that many producers crave.
Advanced Mod Rewriting

You can create some really powerful sequenced effects through Mod rewrite, here is where Vital comes into its own. In my preset pack Synthwave Light - 120 Vital VST Presets, you’ll find that I’ve used this feature to create multi sequence macros where you can change the sequence played by moving one of the macro knobs, this has a number of applications in generative synthesis too.
FM Synthesis

Fm synthesis is pretty great, a lot of people think that it’s limited to the Yamaha DX series sounds, but it has a lot more potential than that. With Vital if you place a sine wave into the sample section, you can effectively have 4 FM operators going through the vital engine.
You can create some fantastic Vital Skins that actually glow.

Version 1.5 introduced some more features for vital skin creators, this includes glowing blooms which make your skins truly shine.
I’ve given away a free skin with my preset pack, Synthwave light, it glows and I’ll be creating a few more skins, one will be a standalone skin completely free, so remember to sign up to my newsletter for this.
The wavetable Engine is compatible with other wavetable synths
If you download a set of wavetables for Serum you can import this into Vital, just like you would Serum, giving you a huge amount of free wavetables to choose from.
Resample to wavetables
Vital includes a powerful feature that lets you resample the oscillator’s output directly into a new wavetable, unlocking an entirely new layer of creative control. With just a few clicks, you can capture the sound you’ve built—modulations, warping, unison voices and all—and transform it into a brand-new wavetable that you can manipulate even further. This gives you the ability to evolve complex sounds into new textures, preserving their unique tonal character while freeing you to take them in entirely new directions.
By resampling the output, you're not just layering effects or stacking synths—you're rebuilding the source of the sound itself. This frees up oscillators to make even more complex sounds.
